Film Fervor: Episode 92 – Malevolent

Malevolent is the first animated horror film made in America. It stars Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Gotham, Firefly), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks, Robocop, Agent Carter), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Texas Chainsaw Massacre II), Dani Lennon (Bite Me), William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal).

Don’t let the all-star cast blind you though, Malevolent is an awesome story that deserve recognition on its own merits. Malevolent is about a young woman, Miriam DeKalb, who works for a non-profit which promotes global peace initiatives. When her billionaire sociopath father, Cyrus learns he is dying, he calls Miriam and her three siblings together to discuss his will.

However, that somber meeting isn’t what it seems because Cyrus’ plan is to pronounce judgement on them all. All of them, in his eyes, are traitors and he has a grisly death planned for each of them.

You would think that would be enough, however, there is an intergalactic gamblers who wager on human conflicts as a bloody death-sport and they have chosen Miriam as their protagonist for the latest match. Thus, the entire situation is being manipulated by the Gamemaster (Baccarin) who has the power to reverse time and reconfigure events as they play out.

Tanya Klein, one of the co-creators of the film, came on the show to discuss the film and what their vision is for it. They’ve recently completed an amazing Indiegogo campaign where they crushed their goals and finished with 114% of their target. You can still go and contribute to the campaign, if you are interested, because of Indiegogo’s “In-Demand” system.

This is a very exciting production and I can’t wait to see it this October. It’s going to be an awesome thrill-ride and I’m signed up for the long haul.
